Do you think a 4,000 sq. ft. home w/5 bed. and 4 bath, is too big for a family of 4?

Just wondering, cause that's how big the house is that we're having built.Do you think a 4,000 sq. ft. home w/5 bed. and 4 bath, is too big for a family of 4?
Hey if you could afford it, do it! Who knows maybe you will have another child.Do you think a 4,000 sq. ft. home w/5 bed. and 4 bath, is too big for a family of 4?
i think it would be great for your family because you would even have a ex tra bed room so you can have a workout room or a game room.
And you get to clean it! That is when you will find out if it is too big.
Not if you can afford it.
If you can afford it then no! Because when the kids grow up they will want space from the rest of the family and you will be able to give it to them. You also have a spare room for the ';up and coming'; suprised that you are sure to have! Just in case the ';mother-in-law'; comes to stay with you for a while!
It does seem on the large side. In addition to costing more upfront (i.e., higher mortgage payment), taxes, insurance, heating, cooling, cleaning and maintenance expense will all be higher. In the end, it depends on whether you can afford it and whether you have the time to take care of it and enjoy it.
Probably too many bathrooms, but the bedrooms are okay. Just think with five bedrooms you could add to your family with no problem, or if not you could make a game room and an exercise room from the spares. Or whatever, as long as you can think of something to do with the extra rooms you'll be alright
not too big for mine... :) if you don't want it, just let me know where it is and I take it.
Depends how much you are paying for the property. If its not too bad get it and ride the equity train all the way to retirement.

I live in a 3000 square ft. home up from a 1000 foot condo. trust me you will always fill up the space.

If you have lots of kids look at the amount of bathrooms and the size of the yard.
Yes. My reasoning? There's so much waste. It's just not needed. While a family of 4 is living in their 4000 sq foot home there are other families who are stacked in mobile homes. Two and more children need to share a bedroom that is smaller than most closets. The one place my family lived before buying our modest but nice home had bedrooms so small that we had to have special beds made for our kids so that they could both fit in the room and share it. I do not begrudge your wealth. I am happy that you are doing well. But why spend so much extra money when it's not needed? Why not build a home that is more appropriate for the size family you have while still being comfortable and donate the left over money you would have spent to those less fortunate? In my own opinion people only build those large, amazing homes in order to show off and flaunt their status. I'm not saying people should denounce all luxury and take a vow of poverty but if we would all live sensibly there would be so much left for the people who would otherwise not be able to afford it. But...I don't feel we should give handouts to people who make no effort to improve their life. You can only help someone if they are first willing to help themselves. Best of luck to you.
Not at all, if you can afford it why not.
but can you afford the Heat %26amp; Air
just right...gives you and hubby a place to hide from the kidies
Yes.
What would you do with 5 beds if you are a family of 4? I have a family 4 and all we need is 3 bedrooms,! for the parents, 1 for 1 kid, and 1 for the other kid. But if you can afford it and are already having it built, there isn't much you can do now.
It IS big indeed. But there's nothing wrong with big houses, or? Especially for 4 people.
Yeah,that will be comfy.
nooooooooooooo its perfect!!!!!
As long as you don't mind cleaning the whole house.
4baths is a lot. You could certainly do with less. I grew up in a house of 2 beds and one bath and we were a family of 4.
Yes, this is too big, unless you entertain a great deal or are expecting relatives to move in with you (mother-in-law suite, etc.).

This is an example of wretched excess, and is detrimental to family solidarity (it's far too easy for you all to avoid each other).

But then, maybe your aim is to raise disfunctional children. If so, you are headed in the right direction.

Cheers.
Well if you can afford taht then I guess you wont be the one cleaning it so does it really matter? braggart
Not if you want to have your privacy. And **** if you can afford it why not build it.
No its huge, good luck cleaning it.
It's large but not completely ridiculous. probably will make the kids happy when they are older teens.

Larger than I would want but like I said not TOO much par say.
Nope - does your husband mind? Why do you ask?
No, mine is 5000.

But, the largrer you go, the less you may see of your children because they can be by themselves. That is the only thing that I do not like.
I think it's perfect for a family of 4! You will all have your own room plus you can have an exercise room and a computer room wow, only drawback, but then you may love to clean, is that someone's gotta clean that house...But, it's perfect!
No. And, you obiously don't either or you would not be spending the money to have it built.. However, if the house is in a bad neighborhood.. I would say, ';Yes.'; and you are wasting your money.
you know you will get both yes and no answers. some may think that you are bragging and some may think you are lieing. but when it comes down to it, it is how you and your spouse or family feel about it. its gotta be alot better than a tiny little house i would think eh? the more room you got the more family members will want to come stay with you. that sucks.
No...you can never have enough bathrooms...but who has to clean the house?
