We bathe her every week and wash the cat backside everytime they go to toilet. Even wipe the paws. What do you think???Can the cat pass any germs or desease when they jump on the sink and bath or jump on bed.?
You seriously wash their backsides every time they use the litter?
With my previous cat that would have, quite literally, been far more painful for me than him. For my kittens it'd just be way more effort than it was worth.
What's more is I'm a germaphobe. I keep toilet seat covers and handi-wipes with me at all times.
You're pretty much safe in the bath and bed rooms. If they are outdoor cats there may be some small risk of ringworm but regular bathing on your part will take care of that.
In the kitchen there are parasites they can pass on but they are of little risk and easily treated. The one exception is if you or anyone in your household is pregnant. There is a micro-organism (can't remember if bacterial, or what) that doesn't harm cats but can be very, very bad for developing human fetuses. Pregnant women and litter boxes are a no-no.
In general I'd keep them off any surface on which you might handle food AND wash said surface before using. When you aren't home or are asleep they have the run of the house.
The cleanest animal on Earth is the pig. The next closest is the cat. The only thing they spend more time doing than sleeping is cleaning themselves. They have enzymes in their saliva that help neutralize microbes that our bodies can't compete with.
Also, because they are obligate carnivores, their stomachs contain higher levels of acids than ours. Most diseases that are a threat to us and transmitted by feces are completely destroyed in their stomachs.
There are very few diseases and parasites which affect both humans and felines.
If your cats don't mind these regular bathings and genital bathings then I see nothing wrong with it and, as a germaphobe (my shrink has Clorox spray in his bathroom for people like me) I can even appreciate it. As a cat owner I couldn't imagine subjecting my cats to that even for my own irrational fears (they both had ring worm when I adopted them. I bathe every day and added both anti-fungal ointments and sprays to my daily routine until weeks after their treatment was over and symptoms did not return). If they don't like it then you might be putting your own fears before their needs.
You might want to consider that you might be going overboard on this. I use at least three handi-wipes after shaking hands with people (Purell may kill 99% of germs but it does nothing to remove them). I don't subject my pet that instinctively hates and fears anything wet on its body to what can be a sort of torture to it.
I know I am irrational when it comes to germs but I do strive to not let my irrationality interfere with others, including my cats. They get all the petting and cuddling they ask for (I try for more but cats are so finicky!). I just wash my hands immediately after.
If there is any other way I can show that I am pretty much completely nuts when it comes to germs please let me know (children. I live in fear of them. They are like little petrie dishes of disease!). The simple fact that even I can let my cats be cats might be an idea to consider. Can the cat pass any germs or desease when they jump on the sink and bath or jump on bed.?
...poor kitty...that's what i think..
what kind of diseases are you worried about. I have never got anything from my cats, and I have lived with cats for over 30 yrs.
I bathe my cats once a month. As for wiping their bottoms never seen a reason to unless they have danglies. As long as they have their shots and are clean and you clean the surfaces before you drink or eat anything that prepared on that surface you should be fine.
Morgaine
Hi. we grow cats at home and the only problem i sthe cats hair that falls down. U will have to laso vaccum the house form the hair once a week for sure. If u r going to bathe it every week adn clean his/her paws it shuold be absolutely fine.
But make sure that they dont lick what u eat, since some people are very allergetic to it. Also my sisters upper lip was allergetic. the skin used to turn black for a few days when she kisses it.
just make sure that dont bring any other preys into ur house, which u can identify with their strange 'meow'.
Yes, she can.
Although you wipe the paws and such, she still buries her own waste with her paws. This exposes her paws to harmful bacteria that can be transmitted to other surfaces. That said, she is still probably very clean, as most cats are. Your efforts to keeping her perfectly clean are actually causing the opposite effect. Their bodies naturally clean themselves and you are stipping away the enzymes and such that complete this function.
If you're that careful I reckon it should be okay, is your cat an outdoor cat? I'd recommend keeping her indoors because they stay cleaner that way and aren't exposed to risks of traffic, disease, etc.
my cats are not allowed on the sink or any food preparation tables
You bathe your cat every week? Hasn't your vet told you that you shouldn't do that? Poor cat! Normally, you bathe a cat only when the cat has rolled into something obnoxious or has motor oil or something like that stuck into her fur.
Just wipe her paws and backside and brush her teeth regularly (with kitty toothpaste - never with human toothpaste). If you keep bathing your cat, her fur will be stripped of essential oils and she will go bald. Not to mention, she may fall sick.
If your cat is purely an indoor cat, the only germs she'll get is from YOU becuase you are the one who goes outside.
Just pet dander, which is like an animals dandruff
ive always wondered that myself i have 2 cats and one like the sink in bathroom i dont thinks dats a problem but when they like to lift seat up and get water bathtub and get wet....ect
