i really want to start a routine where i would give him bottle bath then bed but the problem is that my son has eczema and i wouldnt want to dry his skin even more by bathing him every night.when should i start having a bath bedtime routine? is it that important to have a routine? is there another routine i can do for him to know its bed time? i do have trouble putting him to bed. When should i start bottle, bath and bed for my 4 month baby?
Its important to establish a routine, yes. I would say just minimize the amount of baths you give your baby.
My son has a routine established, however we don't give him a bath every night and the nights that we do give him a bath, preference for fragrance- and dye-free products is given. Babies with eczema should be bathed in tepid bath water so we do that as well, He also remains in the tub for no more than 10 minutes, and then he is patted dry immediately. His bath is always be followed by an application of a suitable cream or lotion to help lock in moisture.
When setting up a routine its not necessary to bathe the baby every night, as long as everything else is followed properly... the baby will understand and start to adapt to the schedule. Our routine is as follows...
1.Bath (every second night)
2.change into Pj's
3. two story books
4. snuggles
5.bottle
6.bed
Just make sure that if you are skipping the bath you go straight to PJ's!
Also Make sure to Avoid: high humidity, sudden changes in Temperature, grasses and weeds and wool clothing.
and also certain: foods and preservatives, fragranced fabric softeners, perfumes, harsh detergents, cleansers containing soap or fragrances.
I hope that helped! I am just trying to provide as much information as I can.. and if you already know most of it I am sorry...When should i start bottle, bath and bed for my 4 month baby?
You can give a baby with eczema a daily bath as long as you don't put a lot of soap in the bath water and you use a really good moisturizer afterwards. Bath time is a really nice way for a baby to unwind after a long day, and it helps to make him sleepy for bedtime.
My 9 month old has a mild case of eczema and she gets an almost soap-free bath every night.
Of course if you're worried about the eczema, I'd give your doctor a ring.
You can try giving his bath during the day sometime. My son has sensitive skin too so we didn't bath him as often. But routine is important. Don't you have a routine yourself for going to bed? Even just having some cuddle time and putting his pjs on around the same time every night will help develop a routine. At his age, he doesn't need a bath every night even if he didn't have eczema. If you want to do bath at night just do it 15 min before you normally put his pjs on.
You know, a routine doesn't have to include a bath, it just has to be the same thing every night. Why not read him a book? (my son love books with silly animal sounds)
My son is 8 months old now, and our bedtime routine involves a glow stick. I get them at the dollar store, 6 for a dollar. He gets his bottle, then I turn the lights off and let him play with the glow stick for a while.
Other times I read him a story with a flashlight. But it's part of the routine, the lights are off, tv off, it's quiet time.
Honestly though, I don't want to sound trite, but I think the only part of our ';routine'; my son gets is that suddenly he finds himself in his bed with the lights off. I don't think he realizes that when the glow stick comes out, when the lights go off that bed time is comming. It's just winding down. It's soothing for him, but it's not a ritual, he doesn't know what's comming next.
I hope this will help you.
my son is 17 months old and was just about possibly the worse sleeper you could ever , ever imagine im talking not sleeping until 12pm then awake at 9 am , i was at the end of my wits
then i finally decied part of the problem was me not being consistent enough with a routine so i started doing
5pm - Tea time
6pm Watches In the Night Garden !!!!!
6.30 Bath Time - as i do this daily i use NOTHING but plain water and lotion after drying
7pm - Warm bottle of milk with a nice long cuddle from Mummy then laid down to bed
I have been doing this for 3 months and it was the best thing i ever done he sleeps 7pm - 6.30am s I think routines are crucial
so think of youre own routine and if you want a bath in it just plain water or top and tail
GOOD LUCK ! XX
I read somewhere -- sorry, I don't remember where, but I'm thinking maybe babycenter.com -- that babies have an internal clock where they start to feel sleepy around 6 or 7 p.m. If you notice your child is getting sleepy around that time, start your B routine then. I do so with my newborn and seems to work fairly well (although there have been some bumps lately, it worked tonight). I put mine down when she is drowsy but still awake (her eyes are starting to close) and we use a womb bear and a white noise CD (look for free white noise in a search engine, like Google, to find free sounds and make your own CD).
Sorry, I don't know anything about the eczema but thought I'd comment on the routine. Good luck! Ask your pediatrician about bathing and the eczema.
my son has eczema and the doc told me NOT to give him a bath every night and when i do give him a bath NOT to use soap!! crazy i know but i cut baths to every 2 nights and only use soap on his head and i havent had a problem since
you can try subsuting the bath with a few books or something special
you dont need to do bath...
here is my bed time routine with my 4 month old daughter.
she gets a small bowl of rice cereal.
wiped down, changed into pjs.
nursed/ or bottle if you choose.
then wrap her up prayer with her and lay her down..
she is now sleeping through the night!
on nights I do bath I just do the bath after her cereal.
As soon as u want...My son was 2 weeks old and i was doing that it helps them sleep so much better since there in a routine...i wouldnt always give my son a bath because his skin would get dry so i would like wipe him down instead like every other day i would switch between the two!
i always give my one year old daughter a snack around 7:30 pm, then a bath, then i give her a sippy cup of milk while i read her a story. i lay her in bed and she is usually asleep by 8:30pm....and doesn't wake up until 9am!
i love it!!
i have been doing this routine for about 6 months!
Try baby massage, or reading a book, I know they're young but apparently you're meant to start reading to them this early!
You are right about having a routine for him every night it is important and it should be started at a young age. You are also right to not want to bath him every night, that is bad for the eczema, and at this age (4 months) he really does not need to be bathed everyday. This is what i suggest, have a routine like say: Mon,Wed,Fri,Sun do bath first not bottle, and then quiet time( this means no TV ,no loud radio and a dim lit room with maybe soft music) and then bottle and bed. Then on Tue,Thur,Sat start with reading a book(it is never to early to start that) and/ or quiet time, bottle time and then bed. If you need switch the days around to fit your schedule. Make sure if you have a sitter or dad or grandma for the night that they stick to this routine. But if it really has to be broken it wont hurt him, it will just take a few days to get back into the routine. Now keep in mind it could take up to 3-4 weeks for him to learn and get into this routine. Also a 4 mth old will not understand it is bed time, he is just still to young, but having a routine will help him understand and what to expect every night. Good Luck and have patience it will all work out and soon it will be a lot easier!!
